What is the relationship between history and the present in Jonathan Coe’s The Rotter’s Club?

I'm not quite sure what you mean by the relationship between history and the present. This is an autobiographical story that reminisces about England in the 1970's. The novels deeper themes approach the subjects of pub bombings and the industrial disputes, which took place during the same timeframe of the story.
