The Road

What parallels does The Road draw to religion?

Specifically, I remember McCarthy's mentioning Christianity now and then.

I love this book. Beneath all the melancholy and futility there is a sense of God hidden somewhere in the details of McCarthy's beautiful prose. I'll always remember the line in the beginning of the story, “If he is not the word of God God never spoke.” It would seem amidst the ruins of Earth that God may have a place but exactly what place is interpretive.
