What is the "spectre-bark"? Who is on it? Is it really there? Who else sees it?

The spectre-bark is a ghost ship. The ship has two people on board..... one is "Death" the other a woman, who is revealed to be “The Nightmare Life-in-Death". It seems that everyone see the spectre-bark, and everyone except the mariner then died.
