The Rime of the Ancient Mariner

He singeth loud his godly hymns That he makes in the wood. He'll shrieve my soul, he'll wash away The Albatross's blood. What does it mean to shrieve?

In context, shrieve would mean the Hermit will absolve the mariner of his sins. Shrieve would have the same meaning as absolution.
