What do the symbols represent?

There are so many symbols in this poem. Consider the albatross. Traditionally the albatross is seen as good luck by the sailors. This is the case in the poem at least initially. The albatross bridges the gap between earthly and metaphysical realms. As the poem continues, the albatross takes on more and more spiritual significance.
