The Rime of the Ancient Mariner

In Part VII the lines that sum up the theme of the poem, the author admitted that such a pat, explicit statement was a weakiness in the poem? Do you agree?

I need help in understanding what a "pat" is and explaining why I agree. I am confused, could someone clear it up.

pat would mean definitive and unchanging in this context.
