First, they blamed and rebuked the ancient mariner for killing the albatross which brought good luck and breeze with it. It helped them by breaking the ice around the ship and provided a way for the ship to steer. Second, when fog and mist appears, they realise that the bird was a bad luck for them which rendered the foggy and misty weather. This shows us that how confused, double-minded and clever the mariners were. They changed their opinions according to their convenience.
