why does Henry change his and decide to move toward the enemy?

I'm not sure which battle you are referring to but I'll pick the first one. Henry wants to see the "monster" that is approaching. He terrified but curious. His act of bravery was peering into the storm. Henry of course changes his mind again and runs like the rest of them .
