Who is the "spectural soldier? " why doesnt henry recognize jim at first ? does jim know he is dying? how does he act

The spectral soldier turns out to be his friend Jim Conklin. Jim is wounded and fears being run over by the artillery wagons.Conklin finally runs away onto a field, he collapses and dies. Henry is filled with rage. He clenches his fists and curses the battlefield.
