Who is the spectral soldier? What does he fear? How does Henry react to his death?

The spectral soldier turns out to be his friend Jim Conklin. Jim is wounded and fears being run over by the artillery wagons.Conklin finally runs away onto a field, he collapses and dies. Henry is filled with rage. He clenches his fists and curses the battlefield.
