What theme does the officers' conversation about the "mule drivers" teach Henry about the realities of war?

The theme of duty comes to the forefront here. The officers don't care about the men or what they are truly capable of...... mule drivers can't be expected to do much, but they are expected to do their duty. They are expendable, but that is simply a part of war.
