what is their camp life like??

In the beginning, yes all they do is argue and daydream. The men are kept in the dark basically being shuffled around from place to place. Rumors are spread and speculation is given. Towards the end of the story the atmosphere is quite different; it subdued yet chaotic. Men that are injured and sick are silent, sleeping or mad. Some of them have gone crazy.
