What is the main character's reaction to the war which is taking place ?

Henry begins the war with aspirations of glory..... hoping to display his courage. Quickly, he learns that war is not what he believed it to be. During his time in battle, Henry experiences the true meaning of fear and guilt, he also beomes a man of honor and glory because he earns it...... not merely becaue he's present.
