Wilson is initially the quintessential arrogant loudmouth soldier that can be heard before the battles take place. After a few battles, Wilson turns inwards, more mournful and self-sacrificing. He represents transformation in this story. By the end of the novel, Wilson becomes a mentor figure of sorts to other soldiers.
