How does Henry hope to gain " moral vindication?

Henry feels a secret humiliation for running away during the fight. Although Henry wasn't alone in fleeing the battle, he felt losing the battle was a sort of moral vindication that his perceptions about the futility of fighting the enemy at that moment were correct.
