The Red Badge of Courage

Crane never names the battle and often refers to soldiers by description , not name, why do you think he is so general and vague in these cases?

would being more specific information lend more intimacy to the story ?would the story be better ?why

help please :{

In my opinion, the names of the battles and the names of the men are unimportant. The novel is about war.... about battles.... about men who are killed for their country, regardless of their identity. The men could be anyone.... someone's son, someone's father, a neighbor, an acquaintance. Crane isn't focusing on the men, he's focusing on the atrocities and fears evoked by war.
