I'm not completely sure what you are looking for here. The cover letter that opens The Prince is addressed to Lorenzo de Medici, a member of the ruling family in Florence. The letter introduces the book as an attempt to gain Lorenzo's favor, referring to the work as "a gift" and promising to show him—through examples of how powerful men have behaved throughout history—the most proven way to govern his people. When possible, a prince should strive to rise to power on his own merits and with his own arms. Relying on friends, good luck, or other people’s arms may make the rise easier, but holding onto his newfound power will prove a difficult task. THe rest of the book is much like this, extolling the merits and pitfalls of royal power and responsibility. Machiavelli closes The Prince with a meditation on luck and its role in human affairs
