what is the tone of the poem and particularily the last two lines?

poem: "our hold on the planet" by robert frost.

last two lines: Or our number living wouldn't be steadily more,

Our hold on the planet wouldn't have so increased.

Although the theme of this poem would be the "unfriendliness of nature," the tone is positive in relation to man's present and future existence as a part of nature.
