The Poems of Ted Hughes

Focus and sustained observation is a running concern in the poetry of Ted Hughes?

Hughes has deep observation. His observation is remarkable and vivid. No poet has observed animals as keenly as he has. His deep observation is showed in his poems "Pike, The Hawk Roosting, Thrushes and Jaguar". But his observation of animals is different from D.H.Lawrance and Tennyson. Though his keen observation reminds Tennyson's special concern for animals but his perception and observation is neither mild like D.H.Lawrence nor fierce like Tennyson
