The Piano Lesson

Act II Scene 3

We often see stage directions appear at the beginning of each act, when a new character “appears” on stage, and when a scene closes. Do these stage directions to be confusing or useful? Do they serve a purpose in the text or are more for the performance?

Stage directions are really for the actors to know what to do and to a lesser extent give context to the reader. I think they help people understand what is happening more than hinder them.
