What do Patrick want from Brad?

We know that Patrick is having a sexual relationship with Brad secretly, but eventually Patrick loves Brad. They are not in a happy relationship because Brad wants them to keep it as a secret. Through out the book we encounter Patrick getting wasted to get over his heart break. What do Patrick really wants out of this relationship?

I think the fact that Brad wants the relationship kept a secret makes Patrick feel badly. He wants to know that Patrick is proud to be openly in a relationship with him, not guilty about it.
