In what other ways did seemingly positive aspects of Charlie's life turn out to be negative?

Aunt Helen was Charlie's favorite person during his early years. She was a positive influence in his life but ends up unraveling because of her sexual abuse. Her death really affects Charlie. I think Sam understands that his relationship with Sam was not unbreakable and that his betrayal of Mary Elizabeth came with consequences.
