When the priest heard the news he became thoughtful. He thought about the church and how the money could help with repair.
When the doctor heard the news he talked about how he was treating Kino's child (he actually refused and walked away). His thoughts were of Paris and fine wine.
The beggars were excited and filled with anticipation. They knew that poor men were generous when they came into money and expected Kino to be just that.
The shopkeepers thought about their wares. They knew they could sell enough to be quite successful. Every rich man needed suits.
