What does the pearl mean to kino at different stages of the novel

At the beginning of the novel, the pearl is a symbol of hope. After finding the pearl, it means that Kino can give his family a better life.... it means their dreams are about to be realized. Later, the pearl comes to be an obsession..... it brings an evil that Kino cannot see. And in the end, the pearl symbolizes loss..... the loss of a son.
