What do the names of the characters suggest the setting for this story?

Steinbeck's main characters in "The Pearl" are Kino, Juana, and Coyotito. These are indigenous type names of people who have much in common with the land they live on. Coyotito certainly references a coyote. Within the English language it is difficult to articulate how the other names connect though.
