The Pearl

This culture is very rigid. Poor people like Kino in Mexico are subjected to poverty as part of their identity. Kino's people know they are taken advantage of when they sell their pearls at the village. By rebelling against this, Kino offends the status quo and finds himself isolated from his culture.
