irony is a contrast or discrepancy between what is expected to happen and what actually happens. what is ironic about kino's having a rifle?

Kino had dreamed of owning a rifle which would give him such standing in the village. He thought that would make him happy. Ironically he ends up with a rifle at the end of the story, but also with a dead baby. There is no standing or happiness in this.
