Hmmm. that's a difficult question. Had Kino given up the pearl would his son be alive....... had Juana succeeded in throwing the pearl back in would Coyotito be alive? The possession of the pearl put the entire family in danger, but it also gave the family hope for a fine future. Thus for me, the responsible person would be the one who shot the child.
