Did Kino and Juana know how the people in the town really felt about Kino's go luck? How do you know?

Kino refused to see the dangers brought on by the pearl, as he dreamed about a better life for his family. None-the-less, we see he is very aware of ill intent by the way he hides the pearl in order to keep it safe.

Juana, however, is uncomfortable and suspicious from the start. She immediately sees that the pearl is evil, not only because of the reaction of her neighbors, but in the changes in her husband as well.
