The Pearl

Although kino is offered 1500 pesos, he didn't sell the pearl. Why did many of Kino's town people think it was a fair offer?

This is like in the middle of the book?

This is the most money ever offered for a Pearl. Although the sum is a fraction of what the Pearl is worth, the townspeople were used to being cheated. They knew they were getting little money compared to what their pearls were really worth. This, however, was their economic and social reality and they accepted it.
