This is a big question.I'll take your main one. Consider the Western world's obsession with wealth. Many of us ruin out families and health in search of money. The desire for money is as obsessive as Kino's desire for the pearl. We justify ruining what is truly valuable but, like Kino, only find the truth after it is too late.
