George's mother and biological father divorced when he was two years old. He rarely saw his father, a man who only came back around a few times while George was in high school, sent money for Christmas, and attended his graduations. George Sr., for the most part, was an absentee father.
George viewed his stepfather in the same way we'd view a favorite uncle. He got George where he needed to go, but as a man, he tended to keep to himself and tinker with his cars. Eventually, he left George's mother, something that seemed to make her very happy.
