Why do Ponyboy and Johnny go to Dally for help?

THey really don't know what else to do. At least Dally has been in tight scrapes with the law before. If anybody knows how to "lay low", it would be Dally. Dally also wouldn't make them turn themselves in. Dally would help them out with money and a plan.
