What final advice does Johnny have for his best friends? Do you think that they are likely to take this advice? Why or why not?

Right before he dies in the hospital, Johnny says “Stay gold, Ponyboy.” The words “stay gold” is a reference to the Robert Frost poem Ponyboy shared when they were hiding at the church. I think Ponyboy is articulate and empathetic enough to take Johnny's words to heart. Ponyboy certainly reflects on these words.
