Two events in chapter 6

Dally, Johnny, and Ponyboy return to the church and find it on fire. There is a class of little children in the church. Ponyboy runs toward the church, throws a rock through a window, and pulls himself inside. Johnny and Dally follow.

Johnny is seriously hurt when a burning beam falls on his back.

At the hospital Pony finally understands how much Darry cares about him, and that maybe the reason he is so strict is because he wants to keep him safe.
