Yes, stereotypes of appearance is a recurring idea or motif. Greasers look a certain way and Socs look a certain way. They are by extension supposed to act a certain way. We find that these stereotypes are not true. Every character has a story. Every character struggled with things. Randy is sick of fighting, Bob had no boundaries at home, Darry is trying to keep the family together.....All of these characters were sensitive individuals even though they looked "tough" on the outside.
