The Curtis boys have lived alone sine the death of their parents. Darry has taken over as the father figure, working full-time and looking out for his younger brothers. Unfortunately, the responsibility of being mom and dad to the boys can be difficult at times..... Darry is always afraid he will lose the boys and will not be able to keep the family together. Soda seems to never change.... he's funny and kind of quiet..... he looks out for his younger brother and understands how to placate his older brother when he is stressed out. Ponyboy, on the other hand, feels as if Darry doesn't love him anymore..... he feels the change in their relationship and doesn't associate the change with Darry's new found responsibility, but rather that he isn't really wanted.
