"It seemed funny to me that the sunset she saw from her patio and the one saw from my back steps was the same one." Who is talking? Who is he talking about? What is the significance of the quote to the story?

Ponyboy is referring to his conversation with Cherry Valance. Even though Cherry is a Soc, she had a poetic romantic side to her. She mentions that both the Socs and the Greasers look at the same sunset. Despite their continued conflicts they may not be that different. Pony really appreciates Cherry's sensitive insight.
