Ponyboy is much younger than Darry. Darry is the oldest and basically takes care of the family since the parents died. Darry has a lot of responsibility. Unlike Pony, Darry does not go to school. Certainly Pony struggles with Darry. Darry is trying to be a father-figure to pony and Pony resists. He feels Darry bosses him around and treats him like a child. Really, Darry is just trying to keep the family together. Soda is happy go lucky. Pony and Soda have a friendly brotherly relationship.
