Pony sees Soda as good looking and charismatic. He sees Soda as the joker of the group able to charm the ladies and charm himself out of everything. Pony knows that school just isn't Soda's thing but given a chance he could be in the movies. Soda is also the sensitive one of the family. Pony sees Darry as strong both physically and emotionally. He also resents Darry for putting too many rules and expectations on him. He knows Darry could have gone far in life if he didn't have to quit school and work for the family.
