Johnny did not kill Bob for justice; he killed Bob for survival. He thought Ponyboy was being drowned in the fountain. In the end, nobody was happy that Bob died. Ponyboy realizes that Bob had his own troubles too. Although Bob might have initiated the fight, there was no justice in it.
