Darry is Pony and Soda's older brother. He is a Greaser, he comes from the poor side of town, and he works hard to keep his family together. Darry had a chance to attend college, an opportunity he had to let slide by because of the death of his parents. These circumstances shape who Darry becomes, as he quickly takes responsibility for his bothers, so that they will not be separated. He is no longer just an "older brother", he's mom, dad, and the family breadwinner. We'll never know what Darry could have become because he is the man he chose to become.... the man who stood up and took the challenge.
