Ponyboy begins to appreciate the simple things in life that he might have previously taken for granted. He appreciates Darry and the stress he is under. He appreciates his brother and his extended Greaser family. I think that Pony will try hard to hang on to what wonder and innocence he has left: he will try his best to "stay gold".
