I think this had to do with watching the same sunset on both sides of the tracks. She has hopes that the mindless conformity of the Socs would one day end and that the antagonism between the Socs and Greasers would one day cease. I don't think that this was described as a dream though. In the end the death of Bob was too much to reconcile to remain friends with Ponyboy.
