Irony - by definition irony is the unexpected happening. When Vera tells the story of the death of the family's "hunters" and then the hunters appear, neither Framton Nuttell or the reader expect them to come in through the open window. The reader is surprised and waits to see the end; Framton runs away in fear and horrorl.
