Do you think Saki chose to have his main character suffering from a nervous condition on purpose?

It would be hard to think he didn't intent to portray Framton exactly the way he is portrayed. His "nervous condition" makes him the perfect target for Vera's imaginative storytelling..... he soaks up every word.
