Stream of consciousness is a technique that presents a narrative as the continuous flow of a character’s thoughts and responses. This occurs in The Old Man and the Sea, when Santiago is alone out on the ocen, and his inner thoughts and spoken dialogue are

presented in stream of consciousness as each idea suggests another.

Example;

“This is the second day now that I do not know the result of the juegos, he thought........” The rest of the paragraph is in your book.....

In this simple paragraph, we see how Santiago’s thoughts move from baseball scores, to DiMaggio, to bone spurs, to fighting cocks, to endurance, and finally to wishing he was the marlin.

This is a stream of conciousness.
