Santiago said "Age is my alarm oclock" What does it mean?

I believe Santiago's meaning is clear. As an old man (or woman), you understand that time is running short, and you need to make the most of every minute you have. Thus, older people generally get up earlier and rarely need to set their alarm clocks. There comes a point when your body says it's time to wake.
