Like most chidren, Manolin contributes an air of innocence and unconditional love. He's loyal, loving, caring, and uncorruptible.....even the wishes of his parents cannot cut the bond between the boy and the old man. Manolin loves the old man and gives him a sense of family..... something that even when Santiago is alone, provides him with hope.
