The old man's solitude and faith
Well I have a pocket due today and the book is boring that I cant read it with out going to sleep. So I know How you feel right about now.
hemmingway's portraiyal of the embattled ,solitary old man arouses the reader's empathy ,though emasculated by age ,fate,he has'nt a tinge of pessimism though the erosions would have led any other weaker soul astray, his confidence, his solidarity , his ability to believe in the'el mar',ennobles him in our eyes.
though alone in the vast sea, he accepts the rise n fall of the tide,he is prepared for the worst,,he does chant 'iwish that boy were with me',but he knows that he will thwart the roughest phases of the sea,his enduance is much more larger than life .it is infact the old man's reserve that endears him to us.his preference 2 talk to the elements of nature, the feelings of fraternity aroused bythe deep n its creatures, inspite of being a man of a few words , the ease with which he accepts& solves a problem ,his humility, his confidence sans pride makes him atrue heroic figure.
manolin wishes to help the old man ,but santiago advises him otherwise, this is where we see another aspectof the oldman's character,he claims that the new day will bring luck, thus assuring manolin that fate can't play mischief all the time, man is finally invincible, nothing can break the indefatigable spirit of man.
